2025 Hobie North Americans
We are pleased to announce that SSC had four teams entered in the Hobie 16 North Americans which concluded on Oct. 3rd at Pensacola Yacht Club (PYC) in Pensacola, Florida. This year's lineup of 69 boats was particularly stacked since it attracted many top tier teams from 8 different countries (USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Venezuela, Bahamas, France, and Guatamala) to compete for the coveted prize of the North American Championship! The first three days consisted of the preliminary qualifiers, which had a purple and white fleet which would be intermixed day by day. Of these fleets, they were scored together and the top half of the teams qualified for the Gold fleet and the bottom half, the silver fleet. Pensacola bay yielded light wind up to 11 knots for the qualifiers, testing the patience and wind reading skills of the sailors. The final two days had higher winds in the morning gusting to 18 knots, which would fade to equal previous days come the afternoon. Good strategy, aggressive starts, and fine boat tuning were key to success on the final two days.
Although the top three teams on the podium were non-Texas teams, SSC extends congratulations to the following teams their hard work and representing SSC at the competitoin (Skipper then crew):- 17th overall, 11th in USA: Kim Andrade (SSC) and Milou Van Kuilenberg (Lakewood YC)- 21st overall, 14th in USA: Alan Davis and Aimee Modic- 23rd overall, 15th in USA: Tao Batteral (Catamaran Club Noumea) and Evan Walters- 67th overall, Matt Fahey and Will IngoldFull regatta results are here "RESULTS POSTED": https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/28927#_homeAs a follow-up to this regatta, the four teams above plan to run a joint racing and "H16 North Americans Lessons Learned" session at SSC.
